Prieuré-Lichine is a cornerstone of the Margaux appellation. The Prieuré vineyard was created in the 15th century by Benedictine monks. In the early 1950s the legendary author and wine merchant Alexis Lichine created a group of investors to purchase a set of vineyards in Margaux. The group cleaned up the sites, and renamed the new Chateau by combining the original Chateau name (Prieure) with the iconic Bordeaux personality, Lichine, and hence we have Chateau Prieure-Lichine today! Ownership passed to Alexis’s son Sasha after the former’s passing in 1989. Sasha continued the Chateau’s expansion and brought in legendary consultants Michel Rolland (the most famous wine consultant in the world) and Stephane Derenoncourt ( many 100pts wines in both Bordeaux and Napa) to aid in both vineyard improvements as well as help in the blend. Today Prieuré-Lichine covers 80 hectares spread over the five municipalities of the Margaux appellation. It is this diversity of plots which allows the grand vin to express the essence of a world-renowned terroir – this is above all a Margaux par excellence. Over the past four decades, you would be hard-pressed to find a greater value in high-quality Classified Margaux than Prieure-Lichine. The team does a masterful job of showcasing the beauty of the appellation, year in and year out. What many do not know is that Prieure Lichine makes another wine that is a fraction of the price and in great vintages offers spectacular quality. The Chateau Prieure Lichine Le Cloitre 2022 is that wine. The 2022 vintage for Margaux in Bordeaux is superb. The vintage got 96pts by Parker’s WA and 95pts by Wine Spectator. The Prieure Lichine Le Cloitre is made from the same vineyards and in the same way as Prieure Lichine. 2022 Le Cloutre got a great 92pts by Wine Spectator, regular price is $52.99 (Wine Enthziast). We have looked at hundreds of values from Bordeaux this year and I can tell you this is a crazy good buy!  I loved this wine and from what I am reading, many are saying it’s just as good as the classified bottling. I agree!
A ripe wine with a black currant aroma and a core of solid tannins. This stylish wine, wood-aged, is made by classed growth Prieuré-Lichine and is worth aging. Youthful compared to the bigger Grand Cru and drinkable now or will age nicely.  92 Wine Spectator
