Red Wine from Bordeaux, France
A Spectacular Expression Of Pure Balanced Electrifying Bordeaux
This spectacular Bordeaux harkens back to the days of old, a wine all about purity, balance, biodynamic with minimal intervention. The wine is owned by the Amoreau family, owners of the legendary Château Le Puy for over 400 years. The Amoreaus stayed the course during Bordeaux’s shift in the late 20th century toward increased extraction, new oak, and technological interference, continuing as they always had to produce hauntingly pure wines from their biodynamic polyculture using a minimum of cellar interventions. As wine drinkers have become hungrier again looking wines of personality and naturalness, their wines have become increasingly sought after worldwide, blowing the minds of Bordeaux lovers by a style of Bordeaux they hadn’t even imagined possible. They have expanded their footprint in the Cotes de Bordeaux, in 2012 acquiring Closerie Saint Roc, less than a half mile from Le Puy where they are making riveting wines. This brings us to the wine I bring to you today which is their latest purchase, Closerie du Pelan. The Chateau was owned and the wines were made by Regis Moro who developed a great reputation for his wines, he was named “Winemaker of the Year” by the French newspaper Le Point in the early 2000s. With the purchase came a huge surprise. Under the cellars’ main floor, was a treasure of older vintages, stored perfectly since they were made. Today from this hidden cellar, I bring to you the 2009 Closerie du Pelan. From the great 2009 vintage, 97pt Wine Spectator and 96-98+pts by Parker, this great wine is the old, true, haunting style of Bordeaux that made the region famous, yet which is so rare to encounter these days.
