2018 Louis Latour Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 750ML
2018 Louis Latour Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 750ML 95 Points! Fresh and fruity, with aromas and flavors of lemon, pear, white flowers and stone, showing great tension and an underlying mineral component that gives this energy and length. The lemon theme continues on the lingering aftertaste, along with butter and pastry accents. Best from 2022 through 2029. 2,702 cases made, 1,200 cases imported. – Wine Spectator Top 100 2021 #6
Open and aromatic with honeysuckle flowers, dried apples and mangoes, as well as white peaches and stone. Full-bodied, this grows slowly on the palate with an intense, powerful finish. Lots of cream, cooked apples, lemons and light oak at the very end. Tight and right. Try after 2023. 97pts Suckling
Corton-Charlemagne 2018 is a powerful, complex wine. Its nose is intense, with notes of white stone fruits such as white peach, fresh hazelnut, vanilla, and almond paste. The wine is full-bodied for the palate, and the vanilla is complemented by aromas of fresh almond and lime blossom. The experience ends with a very fine aromatic aftertaste that has subtle saline notes. Winemaker
The name Louis Latour is part of the fabric, part of the core of Burgundy today. The name is synonymous with Burgundy and is possibly the best known house around the world today. Their most famous white wine come from the hills of Corton, the great Grand Cru Corton Charlemagne. This is the only appellation in Burgundy that has both red and white Grand Cru vineyards but the most famous is great white Corton Charlemagne. These wines make some of the greatest expressions of Chardonnay possible, pinnacle wines.
After the ravages of the phylloxera epidemic at the end of the 19th century the Latour family took the then unusual decision to tear up the dead Aligoté and Pinot Noir vines and replace them with Chardonnay. This decision leads them to create one of Burgundy’s greatest white whites. Today the Latour family owns 10.5 hectares which makes them the biggest owner in the appellation. The Latour’s Corton-Charlemagne vineyards are located on a prime section of the Corton hillside where the south-easterly aspect ensures maximum exposure. 2018 Louis Latour Corton Charlemagne is one of the greatest they have ever made. The wine was the top rated white wine on 2021 Wine Spectator Top 100 putting this wine on a pedestal, a true trophy wine that everybody wants. We have a small allocation and our price is strong. Wine will be selling out.
