2020 Montirius Vacqueyras Garrigues 750ML

This charming appellation within the Côtes du Rhône Villages was second only to Gigondas to earn its own village appellation status. Its high winemaking standards follow many of the same rules as Chateauneuf-du-Pape. But for Vacqueyras red wines, half of the grapes have to be Grenache and the remainder is usually a combination of Syrah, Mourvedre and Cinsault. A great Vacqueyras red combines delicate aromas with intense fruit and a bright, crisp texture. They certainly don’t lack any character and show an abundance of black cherry, wild berry, plum, fig, baking spice, and a touch of game or smoke. Domaine Montirius’ Vacqueyras “Garrigues” 2020 is a distinguished red wine crafted from a rigorous selection of grape varieties that’s aged for 18 months result in superb complexity and aromatic richness. It presents a deep ruby color and an intense nose of black fruits, blackberries, spices, and garrigues. The palate is well-structured with frank, balanced tannins and a full, complex body. Fruity aromas are prominent, leading to a long, harmonious finish.

The name ‘Garrigues’ itself is a reference to the wild herbs that grow within this region, and is well-suited to the aromas of rosemary, thyme and lavender that burst forth from the glass. Powerful notes of dark plum, blackberry compote and blueberry greet the palate, supported by smooth but structured tannins.
