The hardest wine for me to find is Puligny Montrachet. The wines never see the light of day. I have been on the hunt for months now and finally I have found a stunner to recommend. Getting quality Puligny currently is just about impossible. Great white Burgundy stands on a pedestal all on its own. The depth and complexity they can achieve are found in no other white wine. You wine journey is not complete without white Burgundy. Great Puligny tends to be more muscular, fuller, more powerful than Chassagne and to find quality under $100 a bottle has been a pipedream until today.
The Domaine Guillemard Clerc Puligny Montrachet Les Enseigneres 2024 is that wine and is one of the best-kept secrets in sub-$100 White Burgundy this year. Domaine Guillemard Clerc is a small family-owned boutique winery that is run by third-generation rock star Corinne Guillemard-Clerc. Corinne is a meticulous winemaker. All of her parcels are hand-harvested and pressed immediately to retain maximum freshness. What makes Corrine a true craftsmen is that she does everything herself. Her efforts have proven themselves in the great wine she makes that are the essence of where they come from, their purity and great aging potential. This magnificent single vineyard Puligny come from the vineyard of “Les Enseigneres” which is right below the great Grand Cru vineyard of Bienvenue Batard Montrachet (sells $400 to well over $1000 per bottle) and production of this wine is minute, 4 to 5 barrels depending on vintage, around 100 cases. This is hard core, power Puligny, superb richness and concentration, will age superbly in the cellar, if you have the strength to put it away. Tiny amount available. At its price an absolute stunner!
