Old vine Grenache from Spain make up some of the finest opulent, concentrated big red wine values I have ever tasted. Todays wine is a spectacular example. From one of the very few high-altitude old vine Grenache vineyards that survive in Aragon. Vines are 75-100 years old at an altitude of 1000 to 1100 meters. Old vines give you the spectacular richness and concentration and the high altitude allows for longer hang time allowing grapes to ripen perfectly. Not only did we love the wine but Parker’s WA gave the wine 93pts making the wine a steal at $22.99 per. The El Escoces Volante “Es Lo Que Hay” 2019, “it is what it is” and what you taste is a magnificent expression of these great wines. Founded in 2003, El Escocés Volante – “The Flying Scot” by Scotsman Norrel Robertson. He is the only Master of Wine in Spain. He fell in love with old vine Grenache and moved to Spain. Besides making these great wines his expertise has resulted in hime consulting for wineries all over Spain. I urge all of you who enjoy big, rich, voluptuous, opulent red wine to get a case. Absolutely seamless on the backend, great 2019 vintage and perfect for the colder months ahead.
From very stony old vineyards in the village of Villarroya de la Sierra. This plump, full-bodied, round, downright sexy beauty gives up lots of ripe red and black fruits as well as peppery spice, herbes de Provence, and sandalwood. It’s balanced, has supple, incredibly polished tannins, no hard edges, and is just a beautiful Garnacha that has so much to love. Drinking superbly, now, it will keep for 5-7 years, if not longer.”
