Brunello is the last wines to be released in Tuscany. The greatness of the 2021 vintage in Tuscany has been established. From earlier releases of the Chianti Calssico Zone and the Super Tuscans, it has already been hailed as “a milestone vintage” Decanter, “one of the finest ever” , ““One of Bolgheri’s finest ever vintages.” and Wine Spectator, “Tuscany’s recently released 2021 vintage could be this celebrated region’s best year yet.” We have been patiently awaiting the release of 2021 Brunello’s and finally I can bring you one of our all-time favorites and wow is the wine spectacular.

Many of the top critics have recently tasted through the Brunello 2021’s and this is what they have come back with. From the southern part of Brunello, their vineyards are found in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, one of the finest areas within Brunello, home to greats like Poggio di Sotto, Uccelleria, Mastrojanni and Ciacci Piccolomini. The wine is the selection of 10 hectares of Sangiovese located on the different slopes of the Castelnuovo dell’Abate area. The different slopes add different dimension to the wine, elegance, structure, fruit concentration, minerality and finesse.

The Fanti Family has been producing wine in Tuscany for nearly 200 years. In the 1970s, current owner Filippo first took over the Estate and today works with the help of his daughter Elisa. He decided to reconfigure the property planting crops and forests to better help nurture the vineyards, unheard of.  Fanti is a labor of love and you can taste it the wine. A huge thread I keep seeing from what I have read and from what I have tasted is that the wines from this great vintage drink excellently when they are young and have the ability to age for 15-20 years. When I am asked what Brunello should I try to experience what Brunello is all about, why is it such a famous wine region, I recommend a Fanti.
