Red Burgundy fans, Pinot fans, this is an incredible buy! Demand for Burgundy keeps going up and prices keep going up accordingly. This wine is an absolute steal at the price. The Les Heritiers Saint Genys Santenay Premier Cru La Maladiere Rouge 2023 has a received a massive 96pts by Suckling who comments that the wine has the structure we expect form a Grand Cru red Burgundy. Santenay has always been known for a place that if you do your homework you could find incredible quality red Burgundy at reasonable prices. Now a new frontier has opened up where young winemaker and new thinkers are taking Santenay to the next level. This is one of those wines. The wine stems from a partnership of Patrice du Jeu and his uncle who acquired an abandoned estate, located in the very heart of the village of Chassagne Montrachet. Patrice was then a restaurateur in Paris, and decided it was time for him to leave the restaurant business and go back to his family roots. They totally restored the estate and surrounded themselves with a great team. In 2013, oenologist Jean-Baptiste Alinc joins Patrice to support this adventure and bring his knowledge and know-how to the estate. They hired famous French winemaker Stephane Derenoncourt to consult, 100pt Parker winemaker. Their wines have gone from strengths to strengths to a point where one of their wines was on Suckling’s Top 100 French Wines Of The Year. The vineyard of La Maladière sits just above the village of Santenay, facing east on rocky, limestone-clay soils that yield naturally small berries and concentrated flavor. The slope’s excellent drainage and morning sun is ideal for making great red Burgundy. The Quality to price ratio of this wine is off the charts. Please Enjoy!
Suckling “This is astonishing for the appellation with enveloping black-cherry and summer-flower aromas, so fresh and uplifting. Compelling nuances of mushrooms and forest floor on the very concentrated palate. Ample fine tannins are already almost perfectly integrated. Enormously long and precise finish with a wealth of fruit and mineral detail. Drink 2026 to 2035+.” 96pts Suckling
