Nittardi Nectar Dei 2000

Nittardi dates back to the 16^th century. The property was owned by Michelangelo Buonarroti who, in 1549, while finishing the Sistine Chapel, wrote to his nephew Lionardo: “I’d prefer two casks of wine rather than eight shirts.” On that same occasion, Michelangelo also sent Nittardi wine to Rome as a “genuine gift to the Pope Paolo III”. Today, in honour of that tradition, every year the first bottles of Nectar Dei, the top wine from the Maremma vineyards, are presented to the Pope. Today I bring you this great wine, Nittardi ‘Nectar Dei’ 2020. Nectar Dei is the super premium of Nittardi and is made at their Maremma property. This spectacular Super Tuscan (60% Cabernet with Petit Verdot and Merlot) is made by Carlo Ferrini, one of the greatest winemakers in Italy. He makes the likes of Casanova di Neri Brunello, Fonterutoli, Orma, Sette Ponti, Brancaia, Brolio, Petrolo and La Massa, some of the greatest houses in Tuscany. Nittardi’s wines have become some of the finest made in Tuscany today. Lovers of the big opulent Super Tuscans like Tua Rita and Le Macchiole will absolutely flip for this wine. Monster scores matched with our limited insane great price (lowest price I could find the US). This is incredibly strong buy! 

Deep and complex with plum and ripe blackberries with hints of sweet licorice, aged tangerine peel, chocolate and dark tarry tones. Full and opulent with very fine silky tannins framing the intense and succulent fruit. Lingering Finish
