Red Wine Amarone Veneto Italy
Wine lovers love Amarone and today’s example is the finest I have tasted under $40 in years. The greatness of Amarone and what makes the wine so desirable is that they combine incredible richness and depth and intensity matched with balance, grace and length. The wines are almost magical, power matched with elegance, spectacular concentration matched with complexity. The reason for this is how they are made, using a very ancient technique called appassimento, the first mention of which dates back to the era of ancient Rome. At the time of harvesting by hand, the sparsest, least-compact bunches are selected, the grapes of which must be perfectly ripe and healthy. The bunches are then placed in large crates, called plateaux, and left to rest in the spacious, very well-ventilated fruit-drying rooms. The drying lasts about 100-120 days, depending on the percentage of water contained in the grapes which evaporates. At the end of this process the bunches consequently lose 30-40% of their weight, and the concentration of sugars and juice increases in the grapes. The Salvaterra Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2018 is a spectacular of this. Incredible fruit richness, opulence and concentration matched with elegance, finesse and length. The time in the bottle allows the wine to display the greatness of Amarone in all its glory. Tenute Salvaterra is located in the heart of Valpolicella, in the magnificent Villa Giona, today owned by the Furia Family one of the landmark Wineries in Valpolicella and leader in drying techniques to produce Amarone. The wine got a massive 96pts by Decanter and at our price offers you spectacular quality and superb value. I strongly recommend, great for drinking in the fall and winter ahead or in the cellar. We do the homework for you, take advantage. Enjoy!
