2013 Cabaud Wines Cabernet Benediction
2013 Cabaud Wines Cabernet Benediction Dense and silky with a classic bouquet of creme de cassis, cedarwood, spring flowers and a hint of white chocolate on the nose. On the palate this wine is rich and full bodied with perfectly balanced, soft tannins. Red, blue and black fruit flavors along with cassis, Quesch plum, and cedar linger long into the finish.- Luc Morlet, Winemaker
About The Vineyard
Located north of the town of Yountville in the Oakville AVA, Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper was originally part of a large piece of land owned by George C. Yount, from whom the town of Yountville takes its name. Purchased by Charles Hopper and given to his daughter Missouri in 1877, the land was planted to wine grapes and, as much of the Napa land was at that time, prunes and walnuts. In 1960, the land was purchased by Bruce Kelham as part of the historic Vine Hill Ranch. Purchased by Beckstoffer Vineyards from the Kelham family in 1996, the vineyard is today planted with multiple clones of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. In 2002, the property was placed under a land conservation easement that forever prohibits non-agricultural development.
This rock star cult Cabernet come to us from the expertise winemaking of Luc Morlet. The wines of Luc Morlet have become some of the finest and most sought after wines in all of California. He built his reputation in Napa first at Newton and later at Peter Michael who he still consults for today. He makes tiny amounts of wines sourced from some of the greatest vineyard in California. Now the 2013 vintage for Napa is one of the greatest vintages ever. 98pts as a vintage by Parker, the highest he has ever rated a vintage. The 2012 vintage of this wine got 96pts by Parker and after tasting both wines, the 2013n is even better.
Mr. Morlet’s wines are liquid gold, very hard to get, getting huge Parker scores as well being made in tiny quantities. These wines are extremely collectible are truly as good as California gets. The wine is sourced from one of the Beckstoffer single vineyards. These vineyards make up the most expensive land in Napa. Greats like Paul Hobbs; Schrader and Tor make single vineyard Beckstoffer that are some of the most expensive, highly rated and most sought after in Napa today.
Today’s wine come from Beckstoffer’s Missouri Hopper Vineyard in Yountville, terroir of Royalty for Napa Cab. The 2013 Cabaud Cabernet Benediction is a monumental wine hitting the heights of perfection. Parker compares to my favorite Bordeaux Pontet Canet. This is a great wine. Proprietors Phil and Bonnie Cabaud are all about creating perfection and they have achieved it with this great wine. Wines are impossible to get!
