2018 Bouchard Pere & Fils Gevrey-Chambertin
2018 Bouchard Pere & Fils Gevrey-Chambertin; Pinot Noir from Burgundy, France
Winemaker Notes; Intense, perfumed bouquet with fruit aromas and an animal touch. Nicestructure and lovely fleshiness. Pairs well with grilled and roasted red meat, and full-flavored cheeses.
V Vinous; The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Village comes from 10 hectares from around Brochon, split over 17 different parcels controlled by Bouchard Père. Harvested on September 10 and made with 40% whole-cluster fruit, it has more red than black fruit, offering raspberry, cranberry and light pomegranate aromas; hints of oyster shell emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine-grained tannins, good acidity and a nicely detailed finish. This is a finely crafted Village Cru. 90pts
Pinot Noir is the dominant red wine grape of Burgundy,France now adopted (and extensively studied) in wine regions all over the world. The variety’s elusive charm has carried it to all manner of vineyards. These extend from western Germany (as Spätburgunder) and northern Italy to Chile, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and the USA. California, Oregon and New Zealand are arguably the greatest centers for the grape outside its home territory. However great Pinot Noir is made in all of these territories.
Gevrey-Chambertin – a village in Burgundy‘s Côte de Nuits district – produces some of the world’s most prestigious and expensive red wines. The village is home to nine grand cru vineyards, comfortably more than any other Burgundy village (the nearest contender is Vosne-Romanée). Eight of these feature “Chambertin” somewhere in their name, in homage to the most respected among them: Le Chambertin.
Bouchard Père et Fils is a sizable and historic Burgundy wine estate, based in Beaune. The largest vineyard owner in the Côte d’Or, it produces more than 100 wines mostly made from Pinot Noir or Chardonnay, in a range that also includes appellations in the Maconnais, Côte Chalonnaise and Beaujolais regions.
