2018 Castello Banfi Pinot Grigio San Angelo,Tuscany, Italy
White-gold. Fresh bouquet with notes of pear, peach, anise and honey. Fruity, crip and very refreshing. San Angelo Pinot Grigio is a delightful complement to light dishes, such as grilled vegetables and pasta primavera, as well as a range of seafood. It also makes a superb aperitif.
This “white” variety is actually born out of a mutation of Pinot Noir and shows a unique rosy, purplish hue upon full ripeness. The grape boasts two versions of its name and two generally distinct styles: the crisp, Italian Pinot Grigio and the softer French Pinot Gris. Somm Secret—Given the color of its berries and aromatic potential, Pinot Grigio is commonly used to make “orange wines.” An orange wine is a white wine made with fermentation on its skins (similar to red wine making), leading to n orange hued wine with ephemeral aromas and extra complexity.
One of the most iconic Italian regions for wine, scenery and history, Tuscany is the world’s most important outpost for the Sangiovese grape. Ranging in style from fruity and simple to complex and age-worthy, Sangiovese makes up a significant percentage of plantings here, with the white TrebbianoToscano coming in second.
