Once in a very long while I taste a wine that has come together absolutely brilliantly. The wine matches all the bells and whistles, huge press and accolades, with what’s actually in the glass and we can offer at a drop dead . This is that wine! The Mocali Brunello Vigna delle Raunate 2020 is an absolute knockout. This is riveting Brunello, absolutely blew me away. The wine comes from a single vineyard that makes up Mocali’s oldest vines, 50 years of age. The wine got huge press 96pts JD, 95pts Vinous 94 Vinous, 94 Suckling, 93pts Parker’s WA and 93pts Wine Spectator. I tasted last week and the wine is drinking superbly with that silky richness, elegance, Superb berry fruit and length that you only find in great Brunello with time in the bottle with a drinking window of 2026-2040. Dino Ciacci the founder of the Mocali estate, was one of these 25 vignerons who, in 1967, founded the Corsorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino. The consorzio now boasts over 200 producers, but the original members share a special honor: they believed in the terroir of Montalcino well before the rest of the world caught on. Only 150 cases made it to the US. We have a spectacular price on this great expression of Brunello. This is textbook, I strongly recommend. Will blow you away.
